Teen Substance Misuse

substance-abuseIs your child at risk of using drugs? Are they using now?  What are the warning signs?   This 2-hour workshop will address misusing substances, signs, symptoms and the risks for teens.  Topics will include vape culture, the devices and dangers of electronic cigarette use, synthetic cannabinoids (“Spice”), inhalants; marijuana, prescription drugs and opiates.  Resources for teens, parents and educators will also be presented and reviewed.

Who should come? All parents and caregivers of middle and/or high school students, any interested adult.

About our Presenter:

Laurie Warnock is the NH Education Coordinator at the Northern New England Poison Center (NNEPC). Her role at NNEPC is to create and present educational programs on poison prevention for a variety of audiences, and to develop partnerships with community-based agencies and organizations to promote use of the NNEPC as a means to prevent poisonings, reduce healthcare costs and improve outcomes. She currently chairs the Board of Trustees of the Partnership for Drug Free NH.

Laurie has been an EMT for over 20 years and previously served as clinical educator at the NH Emergency Medical Services for Children Program at Dartmouth Medical School. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of New Hampshire.
